Guestthere are so many rules you have to follow, and they prevent you from using Cloudflare for your DNS proxy… insane!
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/troubleshoot-issues-with-domains
A custom domain is your customer’s first entry point to your online business. Ensuring that you have your custom domain accessible to your customers is an important part of launching and maintaining your store. Whether you have a Shopify-managed domain or a third-party domain, you can review your domain to verify the following information:
The DNS records match the following records without any typos:
A record: 23.227.38.65
AAAA record: 2620:0127:f00f:5:: or 2620:0127:f00f:0005:0000:0000:0000:0000, for domains that require the expanded IPv6 address
the www CNAME record shops.myshopify.com.and include the period
There is only one A record and only one AAAA record.
There is only one www CNAME pointing to Shopify and any additional CNAME records have unique names, such as shop.
There is no DNSSEC active on the domain.
There is no wildcard record pointing at Shopify.
There is no Cloudflare Proxy present.
Your third-party domain provider permits Let’s Encrypt and GlobalSign to provision SSL certificates. Shopify-managed domains all permit Let’s Encrypt and GlobalSign.
Your domain is active and not expired.10 Jan, 2025 at 6:55 pm #42390Frances
Guestoh what’s that you say? it’s still not working? your see SSL issues? calm down, you only have to wait 48 fucking Hours!!!
When you add your custom domain, a new SSL certificate is automatically created. This process can take up to 48 hours. During that time, you might see an error that reads SSL Unavailable in your Shopify admin and you might see a security error in your browser when you visit your online store. Learn more about the SSL Unavailable error and steps you can follow to troubleshoot it. If it does take longer than 48 hours, I recommend contacting our live support team here: https://bit.ly/3i52f21. They’ll be able to investigate what might be occurring and provide you with a fix.
Shopify provides SSL certificates to your store after your custom domain has been properly added. To improve security, SSL certificates encrypt your store’s content and publish it securely using HTTPS instead of HTTP. You can find out more about how SSL works in this guide.
Thanks!
absolute shit show, this gives me anxiety imagining how many customers are stuck trying to figure this out

Guestthere is an entire Google library of people trying to figure out the SSL pending errors in Shopify, it has been an issue for several years already and they haven’t improved the system yet.

Guest“Your domain has a Cloudflare Proxy, which is not supported by Shopify”
they also love giving this error message even if you didn’t use Cloudflare. nobody seems to know why.

Guest++ when you finally think you figured it out, the frontend of your site will then say:
This domain points to Shopify but isn't configured properly If you are the owner of this store, please check the domain settings in your dashboard and follow the troubleshooting documentation.

GuestWooCommerce keeps getting more bloated and integrating WP.com SSO more and more, and Shopify is getting more authoritarian.
It’s time for a lightweight shopping plugin to disrupt WordPress again?
