How can I change my website/server domain name?
ANSWER: For both accounting reasons and technical (networking) reasons within DigitalOcean, changing your website’s domain is not a quick and easy process. It requires our team setting up an entirely new VPS server with the new domain name, and then migrating over your data to that new server. We then must re-configure all the included services such as CodeGuard, CloudFlare, UptimeRobot, etc, and then cancel your “old” subscription when switching you over to a “new” subscription ID. By keeping our setup very organized in this way we are able to ensure that no confusion occurs and that all records are properly updated in our accounting records.
All this to say, think twice before changing your domain name. Besides it being a bit of a hassle technically speaking, it also can have huge repurcussions when it comes to SEO, search engine rankings, usability, branding, and beyond.
If you are 100% sure you wish to change your domain name please purchase our Site Migration service per each domain name being changed.
Note: changing from HTTP, HTTPS, www, or non-www is NOT considered a domain name change.
